The Power to Save This Nation

“I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but by me!” Those are very powerful words spoken by Jesus. No one can be saved except by going through Jesus. He is the solution. He is the only one we can go through to be with God. There is no other way to salvation. Jesus is the beginning, the source of the power to save; the power to convert a lost soul and save it from destruction. That power is not just limited to salvation, but is available to us all to do great things; things like Jesus himself did when he walked on water. That power is available, but we have to believe.

Mark 16:16-18 says, “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

At the beginning of the passage just shown, believing is required to be saved. There is the beginning of that awesome power coming to us through Jesus. Our souls are forcibly removed from damnation to salvation. Then the verses go on to talking about the exploits one can do by believing. Casting out demons: That without question is something one cannot do without authority and power that comes from God. How can one do that without being in agreement with God? Demons are something we cannot see or even deal with on a physical scale. They are spirit beings and thus they have to be dealt with in the spiritual world. Most people do not even really believe in the spiritual world. Some will chase after ghosts and things, but they do not realize with what they are truly dealing. If they knew, they would run away as fast and as far away as they could. That is not a subject I am going to go into here.

Speaking with new tongues:  Here is a subject that stumps over half the Church world. For example, Presbyterians will tell you only the few mentioned in the book of Acts could ever do that. However, God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not change, and his Word does not change. He is no respecter of persons. It all comes down to believing what God and Jesus say. Jesus said, “These signs shall follow them that believe.” If you do not believe, then these signs cannot follow you. That is where you fail; in the area of believing. To say this is something only the people in the book of Acts could do is simply a copout. They choose not to believe, because they find it too hard to believe for themselves, so they create an excuse. God’s words are eternal. They stretch out over all ages of time. What worked in the past still works today. It is through the power of words that bring things into being just as God spoke and the world came into existence.

God said it, and so it is possible. The Apostles believed and so they spoke with new tongues. If we believe, we can also do the same. The key to the power of God for salvation and other mighty works always depends on one believing what Jesus said. Jesus said, “Have the faith of God. For I say to you, that whoever shall say to this mountain, be removed and be cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe those things which he says shall come to pass; he shall have whatever he says.” The words we speak have power, but we have to believe that whatever we say will come to pass. Thus, faith is required to channel the power of God into our lives.

Taking up serpents and drinking any deadly thing: Here is another area that causes confusion, especially the first part. There is of course a sect that actually takes ups rattlesnakes to be bitten by them. What is being spoken here by Jesus is simply that the power of God can keep a person from harm no matter the situation. Paul in the book of Acts was bitten by a venomous snake. He was caught by surprise not knowing the snake was there, but he simply shook off the snake into the fire and went on about his business as normal. He did not pray for healing or turn from what he was doing; he simply was not concerned. Why? He knew what Jesus had said as just shown in the book of Mark. “They shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them.” He knew he had the protection of God, because he believed what Jesus said. Does that mean Jesus is God, because he believed Jesus’ word? Yes, that is what Paul believed; God and Jesus are one, and their words always agree with each other. Jesus is God in the flesh as God sits on his throne in the spiritual world. Paul knew that any deadly thing could not hurt him as long as God still had work for him to do on this earth.

They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover: This statement of course is full of controversy, because many do not want to admit that healings can occur supernaturally. Again, it takes great faith to do such a thing. But, as always it depends on us believing for this sign to occur. I fail in this area far more times than I succeed, because the circumstances we see with our eyes can overwhelm our ability to believe. However, Jesus’ word has not changed: “These signs shall follow them that believe…They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

Many people have been healed supernaturally. It happens every day. I have prayed for people to be healed and they were instantly healed or in other cases they instantly improved and were completely healed by the next day. It simply requires believing and actually wanting to be healed. Many times, the person being prayed for actually does not want to be healed. They prefer the sympathy or maybe something else. If they do not really want to be healed, then no prayer can heal them. God will not violate their will.

The power of God is available to us. It takes the power of God for us to be saved. It takes the power of God for us to walk in complete victory in our lives. It requires the power of God to save this nation. We have to believe, but we also have to act. Faith without works is dead. Start believing what God and Jesus said and say. Their words are eternal. They are valid for all eras of time. Those words of yesterday are still valid today. We have to believe what Jesus and God have said. We can change things in our lives and change this nation, but we have to “Go out into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16: 15) That is where we start to save this country.
