Government Theft: Biblical View

I received a comment praising Obama for the health care law now legalized by the Supreme Court and was castigated for being critical of Obama for this law. Let us look at what the Bible and God have to say about taxation. Is it okay for a government to tax its people?

In Mark 12:17 Jesus said, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” Jesus told us in this passage to pay our taxes to the government. At the very least, Jesus considered it more important to obey the law than oppose an unjust law in this case. We cannot tell from this passage whether Jesus considered taxation to be unjust. Let us dig a little further.

In Matthew 17:24-26 the equivalent of the IRS came to Jesus’ disciples and asked if Jesus was the kind of person that would do his duty and pay his taxes. They answered yes and then went to Jesus who said to them, “Of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? Do they take it from their own children or strangers?” Peter acknowledged that it was from strangers. Jesus responded, “Then are the children free? Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take up the first fish you catch and open his mouth. There you will find some money. Give it to them for you and me.” Jesus paid his taxes but made a comment that showed he disapproved of unequal taxation. What do we have today in the United States but unequal taxation?

The Bible is very clear that God does not regard one man above another. He loves everyone equally and obviously disapproves of treating some people with more respect than others. Do you really think you are treating someone fairly and with equal respect when you tax one person at 25% and another at 38%? Why is this done in the first place? It all boils down to breaking God’s commandment of thou shalt not steal.

Government makes differences between classes of people so it can somehow justify taking money from one person and giving to another. This is a Robin Hood mentality, but it still breaks God’s commandment of thou shalt not steal. Robin Hood was called a thief and if he was a thief, then government also is a thief. Government wants to place itself into the position of doing social engineering and doling out equality to all people. They have tried to make themselves the one that meets the needs of people in place of God. They cannot do this without stealing from one section of the population to give to the other. God never approves of stealing. You see this done in third world countries all the time. A leader rises to power and gets rich on the money he collects from taxes. The money should not be going to him in the beginning but only to make roads, field an army and things like that which do not involve treating certain sections of the population different from the others. God made the church to be the one to whom one can turn to for help during the times that person is in need. The government of the United States has usurped that role from the church and the church has gone along with what the government has done. It is because of the church, the U.S. government has become so powerful.

Jesus said, “Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor yet for this body, what you shall put on…if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you. Why do you have so little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or with what will we be clothed? After all these things do the Gentiles seek: because your heavenly Father knows you have need of these things. But seek the kingdom of God first and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 5:25, 27-33) Nearly half of the country has become dependent on the government instead of God, and this is exactly the opposite of what God wants. Government should not be the provider for the people: God should be the provider. So many of these people dependent on the government do not know (because they are so worldly); that there is a God in heaven who will meet their needs if they just turn to him. This is the reason the United States is headed for collapse, because people in this country have run to the altar of a false god, Government, to meet their needs.

  1. Heavenly Says:

Jesus said I was hungry and you didn’t feed me I was naked and you didn’t cloth me. Why do you grumble and why are you so stingy. GOD said be a cheerful giver. You didn’t bring anything into this world when you were born and When you leave this world you can’t take anything with you.
Politicians are robbing the people and businesses inflate prices.
Religious leaders have been caught misusing funds and organizations as well as departments of distribution of money have misappropriations of money. Repent USA and return to The One True GOD our Creator.
