ISIS, Christians and What We Should Do

There are many ways to get things wrong. There are many ways those who are children of God can do the wrong thing. What is the right thing to do for our situation? And the most important thing to watch out for, what are the wrong actions to take for our situation in this nation? Let me tell you what God has told me.

I was reading in Isaiah 55 when God changed a word for me in what I was reading. In verse 7, he changed one word. What he said was, “Let the wicked forsake his war, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return to the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to pardon our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

What I saw in this verse was God saying to President Obama and those who support this war against ISIS to give up the war; stop fighting them. Why? The reason is they are there to be a thorn in our side as long as we are turned away from God in this country. This means, you can attack them with your missiles and planes, but in the end you will not win. They are a God-ordained adversary until we turn back to God. You can try all you want, but you will never win. Besides all that, I know the President’s heart is not in this to win anyway.

God goes on to say in the next verses, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” What this means is the way we would have things done are simply dumb compared to the way God plans to have things done. We look for quick relief for our situations, but God plans out things for ages to come. Where there are bad things happening, God will allow the evil to reign for a while so greater good will prevail in the end. That is how God does things. So the word to us is to trust God to lead us to the best solution; stop trying to do it our way and follow God’s plan. Therefore, we should stop trying to defeat ISIS and follow God’s lead on what to do.

Now, of course you will want to know what we should do. Let us read some more scripture to learn what that is we must do. First, let me mention what Christians are doing today. They are fasting and praying all around the country wanting things to change. However, they are missing the boat in one important area. They need to read the book of James to understand that, but we will turn to what Isaiah goes on to say first.

People who are fasting and praying ask God (starting in Isaiah 58: 3), “‘Why have we fasted and you do not see? Why have we afflicted our soul and you take no notice?’ (God answers them saying) Behold, in the day of your fast, you are doing it to please yourselves and it exacts a heavy toll. Behold, you fast for strife and debate and to smite with the fist of wickedness: you do not fast this day in a way to make your voice to be heard on high. Is this the kind of fast I have chosen? Is it a day to afflict one’s soul or to bow down like a reed bending in the wind and to make a show that you are in distress for that which you pray? Will you call this a fast and proclaim this is acceptable enough for God to hear?

“Is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens of sin, to free the oppressed, and to break every yoke? Is it not to give bread to the hungry and to bring those who have no home to your house? Also, is it not to cover those who are naked and to help those who are related to you?”

What is the Christian doing wrong according to these verses? He is praying for things to change, but he thinks that is all he has to do. It does not work that way. James said, “Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer and not a doer of the word, he is like a man who beholds his face in a mirror and then goes away and forgets how he looked…Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1: 22-24, 27) James goes on to say, “What does it profit my brothers, though a man have faith and have not works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked and destitute of daily food and one of you say, ‘Go in peace and be warmed and filled:’ notwithstanding you do not give them those things the body needs; what does it profit? Even so faith if it has no works is dead being alone.” (James 2: 14-17)

Christians are praying for this country, but they stop there. They do not act with their feet what they pray with their mouths. They want new leaders, but they will not lift a finger of discomfort to step out and take this country back by storm. They should be out protesting, disrupting and doing anything else to say to our government, “We have had enough!” However, the Church is remaining silent. The courts are legalizing gay marriage throughout this nation with no significant peep from the Church. The government takes our freedoms away and exacts heavy tolls on those who speak out against anything that is not politically correct. They reach further and further every day, and each new day brings a new infringement on our rights and new efforts to strike God and his word out of our society. (Just look what is happening in Houston, today). Where is the Christian in all of this? There should not be just a few pastors complaining like we see in Houston today, but thousands and thousands of Christians in the streets saying, “Enough is enough!” However, there is no significant resistance out there to stop the ungodly from advancing their agenda in our society.

Faith without works is dead. Prayer to God without subsequent actions by us to change things in this country will not change the direction this nation is headed. We have to get our feet moving. We have to rise up like our Forefathers did against the British to change things or nothing will get better, it will only get worse. God demands we move in faith. God demands we get up on our feet, get out of our comfort zone and take this nation back by force. We need to organize, protest and most of all repent that we have not said, “No!” to all that has been happening in this nation. We are running out of time. It is now or never to act. God is not going to give us much more time before it is too late. Wake up Christians in America. Praying without action means you are not doing what is required for God to move on your behalf.
